Different types of kitchen: Layouts & Constructions for your dream kitchen
Undeniably, the kitchen is the most important place in the home.
Our day probably begins with a healthy green tea or cup of coffee made in the kitchen! It ends with a quick midnight snack before bed!
The way the dawn should be clutter-free & positive, the dust for us should also be hassle-free. This is possible if your kitchen & dining space is expertly crafted and well designed.
As a result, when it comes to design, the kitchen demands a lot of attention to detail. The layout is the most important component of your ideal kitchen design. The layout and architecture add to ease the food preparation, serving and socializing.
While there are many different kitchen designs, there are only five different types of kitchen layouts. Find out which one is ideal for you by continue reading it.
L-shaped Kitchen
An L-shaped kitchen is ideal for large families with many people cooking in tiny kitchen spaces and is the most popular kitchen type. This type of kitchen yields maximum productivity because there is enough counter space for multiple cooks to work at once.
Parallel or Galley Kitchens
A parallel kitchen can be an extremely productive layout when there is enough space. This kitchen type has multiple work zones thanks to two counters and two sets of cabinets. Besides, the hob, the fridge and the sink in the kitchen forming triangle add convenience to your daily cooking. A medium-sized parallel kitchen type is ideal for a nuclear family.
Straight, Single Galley Kitchen
Straight kitchens or one-wall kitchens are excellent for small and studio homes since they feature the most space-efficient design and include a single counter with one set of walls and base cabinets. A linear, straight kitchen runs the length of the room’s wall.
It is the most practical structure for a simple cooking process when the fridge and sink are equally spaced from the stove or oven.
U-shaped Kitchens
Ideal for joint families with a medium-sized kitchen, U-shaped kitchens offer plenty of storage and multiple sets of base and wall cabinets. If you want individual work zones, this type of kitchen is best. This layout provides counter space for each zone to keep the fridge, stove, and sink safely and independently.
Island Kitchens
Great for families with kids, a kitchen island is a trendy design element for a large kitchen with plenty of space. This type of kitchen can be incorporated into any layout. Its multi-functional counter can be used as a prep zone, a breakfast counter, or even a cooking zone. We recommend getting an island counter only if you have enough room to move around.
Types of Kitchens Based on Construction
While there are five types of kitchens based on layout, there are two types of kitchens based on construction – Modular kitchens and Carpenter-made kitchens.
Modular Kitchen
A modular kitchen is modern kitchen furniture that is built into modules or units. These are cabinets with pre-selected standard-size elements. A modular kitchen is typically made up of wall and base units.
Modular kitchens are ideal for high-end homes that need a completely new kitchen.
Carpenter-Made/Customised Kitchen
Carpenters build a carpenter-made kitchen according to the homeowner’s specifications. Traditional panelling, mouldings, and cornices can be incorporated into the design of carpenter-made kitchens, as shown in the image above. A carpenter-made kitchen is built entirely from scratch by local carpenters. As a result, it cannot be dismantled, and the countertop in the kitchen is always fixed. This type of kitchen is ideal for low-cost renovations.
The most popular type of Kitchen
An L-shaped kitchen is the most common kitchen type. Two counter spaces perpendicular to one another make up the L-shaped kitchen arrangement. This makes it ideal for groups of people to cook together, which is why Indian families favour it. A functional triangle is also produced by an L-shaped kitchen layout, making it convenient to work in.
