Unit I: Introduction to Human Body, Cells & Tissues

Introduction to human body: Definition and scope of anatomy and physiology, levels of structural organization and body systems, basic life processes, homeostasis, basic anatomical terminology. Cellular level of organization: Structure and functions of cell, transport across cell membrane, cell division, cell junctions. Tissue level of organization: Classification of tissues, structure, location and functions of epithelial, muscular, nervous and connective tissues.

Detailed Cell Structure Overview: - Plasma Membrane: Fluid mosaic model, selectively permeable. - Mitochondria: Powerhouse of the cell, generates ATP. - Nucleus: Holds DNA, controls cells replication. - Endoplasmic Reticulum: Rough ER handles protein synthesis, Smooth ER handles lipid synthesis.
